Expert Stories
A 4-Week Storytelling Workshop

Over four weeks, you’ll learn the elements of effective storytelling and build and test one real story from your own work, with a small group of peers.

This workshop is all about why stories work, who they’re for, and how to build them, so you can do it over and over again throughout your career.

You know your field. The people who need your ideas may not speak its language. This workshop helps experts turn what they know into stories that travel beyond the journal.

What we’ll cover

Week 1: Why stories work. What a story is, why it sticks, and the SODA framework, which gives you a working structure in minutes.
Week 2: Who you’re telling. How to think clearly about your audience, and why a story that works for one group falls flat with another.
Week 3: What to tell. How to find the right story in your own work and decide which one to lead with.
Week 4: How to tell it. Tested principles of effective storytelling, then a final round of practice and feedback.

How it's structured

Each session combines short teaching, group discussion, hands-on practice, and peer + instructor feedback. You’ll leave with a story you’ve drafted, tested on real listeners, so you can use it right away.

Details

Format: Live online, four weekly sessions
Choose your section: Two sections, Mondays at 6:00 pm ET, or Saturdays at noon ET -- PICK ONE
Group size: Limited to 8 per section

Who this is for: This workshop is for people who want their work understood outside their field. It’s not a path to publication, and obviously nobody can guarantee a specific outcome from your stories. What I can do is show you what I've learned in more than 20 years of book publishing and what has worked for my authors and others.

Small group, limited seats. If your section fills, you’ll be offered a spot in the next one. Sessions will run if at least 4 participants register. If fewer than 4 seats are filled, you’ll be offered another section or a full refund.
